Filipino-Australian Broadway Superstar MiG Ayesa has been performing around the world in shows such as We Will Rock You, Rock of Ages and Annie to name a few.
And now at last, his Australian fans have their chance to watch their talented artist headlines the musical Thriller Live in major cities in Australia.
The musical which has been running in West End in London since 2009, celebrates the music of pop king Michael Jackson. I have watched MiG Ayesa’s dynamic performance in Rock of Ages in New York and I would say that he is a perfect choice to bring life to Michael Jackson’s music and presence on stage.
The Australian tour of the musical has completed its shows in Perth and Adelaide, during 10-21 December 2014 and 30 December 2014 – 11 January 2015 respectively. The shows had received great feedback from the audiences.
In the meantime that the musical is making its way to Sydney, I thought to share an update on the pride and joy of the Filipino-Australian fans in particular and the wider community in general.
*VC: Since you were in Sydney as a guest at the Filipino Kultura Fiesta in October 2014 and later to perform in the Queen musical at the Sydney Opera House in February 2015, what shows and projects have you been involved in?
MG: 2014 was a very busy year. After returning from Australia, I had to return to London to do a workshop of a new QUEEN musical, in fact the sequel to WE WILL ROCK YOU, called THE SHOW MUST GO ON. I then found myself playing ‘Rooster’ in ANNIE, as this West End production rehearsed in London, but then toured around New Zealand. I then returned to London to do a workshop production of a new social media musical called LIKE ME.I then flew to Manila to do the repeat-repeat run (yes, that means the third season!) of ROCK OF AGES at the Meralco Theater, after which I flew back to London to start rehearsals for THRILLER LIVE, which brings me back to Australia and to this present moment in time. I also launched a new TV show in the Philippines which will air on GMA News channel starting 17 January called FIL IT UP. It’s been a busy time!
*VC: “How do you find performing Thriller Live in Australia?”
MA: Let me say that working with the show here in Australia has been such a thrill and in many ways a far superior experience than when I performed it in London. For starters, we are playing some of the best rooms in the country (Crown Theatre, Festival Theatre, QPAC, Star City…) where we can really pump up the volume without fear of disturbing the show next door (unlike in London, where we have noise level restrictions!). So we can really JAM! Also, I jumped at the opportunity to return to Australia for this show, especially for Christmas/New Year’s/MY BIRTHDAY! To have the opportunity to spend time with family over these celebrations is priceless. I also wanted to re-introduce myself to the performing community here in Australia, and could not have chosen a more fun and explosive way to do so.
*VC: “Any other projects scheduled or planned for 2015 and beyond?”
MA: At this stage, it’s all pretty much in the air. Nothing definite yet, but there are a few projects that I have penciled in, which I am very excited about. If they come to fruition, 2015 could be my biggest year yet. Fingers crossed, but if not, then I have those guitar lessons to work on as well as working on a new album.
* VC: “Do you believe in doing New Year’s resolution? if not, why not? if yes, what is your resolution for 2015?”
MA: I so totally believe in NY resolutions. A new year is a chance for a new beginning, a chance to right wrongs, a chance to make things right for yourself and to add new inspiration to a challenge. Unfortunately, I’ve had the same resolution for the past few years as I have not been able to achieve it, and that is to really learn how to play the guitar properly! I feel like such a novice on the instrument. I have been so busy with traveling and other projects that it has always been the last on my list of things to do. But I hope I will be able to make it a priority for 2015. Not so good so far, as I am traveling with THRILLER LIVE around the world at the moment, so it’s hard to have a guitar with me. But when I get back home to New York…!!!!
VC: ”Would you have a message to your fans?”
MA: Thank you for all your support throughout the years, but please keep in touch at www.mig-music.com and follow me on twitter and instagram etc @migayesa. I hope you have the best year ever, and don’t let anyone tell you, “you can’t do it”!!
