I definitely agree. We have "user"-friendly people amongst us who will weave themselves into your lives systematically and once they have earned your trust, they become abusive and selfish. Unfortunately, when the relationship doesn't work out either because you question their motives, you can no longer give them the attention they want or even when you become their biggest threat (unconsciously), they become nasty and spray their "venom" on you unexpectedly. It now becomes all your fault (their choices, their weakness, their failures, etc) and now their focus is to destroy or discredit you. This is what we call in Australia USB - uneducated, selfish b**** or b****** (babae or babaero, hehehe - what we're you thinking?)

Thanks Major for your kind comments.

I agree that it would be great if we could have one flag raising for at least in the Sydney metro area. Having said that, I recognise that there could be other flag raising ceremonies in 'regional' areas such as Bathurst, Campbelltown, Penrith, Gosford, etc. But certainly we could hope that instead of having two Independence Day Ball events and Christmas celebrations in the Sydney metro area, we could celebrate as one community.

Violy, congratulations for a well written and comprehensive report of the days event on the occassion of the PCC Election. I also would like to congratulate Mr. Atoy Sayas on his election as the PCC President and look up for him to be the person who will be able to unite the community in having a One Flag Raising and Independence Day Celebration for Filipinos in Sydney for 2012, with the battle cry "Isang Bansa, Isang Bandila, Isang Diwa." Kudos for you Violy and Mabuhay ka Atoy.

Mr Bock, thanks for your kind words.

Your comment re why I thought the atmosphere was congenial made me look up the definition of the word 'congenial' and was relieved when it said "the quality of being pleasant and friendly". That was how it felt for me as I was comparing that day to the meeting I attended a few years ago where there were designated 'security men' or 'marshals' patrolling up and down the side of the venue, and small groups of people huddled up in discussion - the tone of voices and waiving arms indicated it was not exactly a happy discussion.

As I said in the blog, it was great to see people interacting in a relaxed and friendly way. Even the two candidates shook hands and had a little hug after their short talks before the actual election. After the election, people also stayed and continued socialising. Although the noise of loud but happy conversation spilled outside the hall and interfered with our attempt to record an interview of both Atoy and Serna, it was good to see such interaction.

We look forward to seeing the progress on the item of 'collaboration' of the two head organisations. Cheers.

Ms. Calvert, these are is my private comments re your blog, and I think your blog on the PCC election and other matters is very fair, accurate and productive, however one can only ponder as to why the atmosphere was so congenial. Sadly, there other issues re Mr. Sanchz, but I do agree fully with your sentiments re Jules and APCO /PCC this is a work in progress, but required for the good of the Philippine Community in the long run. Robert Bock APCCII Pres. 2012 and Director, PCC 2012

I agree with all of the above. I want to highlight though the flip side of number 8 'walang utang na loob' [ingratitude]. If people can't bring themselves to show gratitude to those who done good things for them, they should at least have some decency not to engage in 'operation badmouth'. This also applies to appreciating our adoptive country which has given us opportunities and comfortable lifestyle. I have heard some comment negatively but stay on to continue the reap the benefits.

Thanks, Violi.

There are people who proudly wave their titles and diplomas and yet do not understand the difference between personal agenda and professional issues.

There are also some people whom are quick to accuse others of personal propaganda without looking at their own reflections first.

And there are others who are quick to criticize and judge others without thinking, perhaps, they are acting out of insecurity and just promoting themselves in the process.

And the real reason is, they lack wisdom and compassion to know any better.

Thanks, Nilda. I believe we should also look at:

8. "Utang na Loob" (IOU) - Sometimes people use IOU to their advantage way beyond it's expiration date; I reckon we should put a limit on it.

9. Manana Habit - Why leave things for next year when we can do it sooner?

10. iLead Attitude - Instead of forming new organization/s, why can't we use our energy in promoting unity instead?

11. Double Standard - we want SNAGS!! "Men won't lose anything" does not excuse one from God and society in having "other women". And on the domestic side, both genders have responsibilities in maintaining a clean home especially because we have no maids in Australia.

12. Boundaries - Australia is a massive land, why do you have to stand so close to me? And, at work or in other clubs or organizations, people have to learn the difference between professional and personal issues/agendas and not cross/mix them. Hitting below the belt nowadays is considered childish.

Okay, getting carried away here. That should be the Dozen Un-Australian Habits
